What approach would you take to evaluate new commercial development proposals?
It is important to understand that the Town Council does not approve new development proposals, unless they require an amendment to the zoning ordinances. Nevertheless, for me an ideal commercial development proposal is one that is situated in the area of town that has been designated for future commercial development. Also, it would be preferable for new commercial development to be a source of employment for Richmond residents and/or be a source of goods/services for residents. A good commercial development would have limited impact on the community and not involve excessive noise or odors and not result in disruption to residents' routines. A commercial business owner that sees the town as a partner/collaborator and that intends to be involved in the community is preferred.
